There are many things we want to do in life but we seem to get lost along the way, its tough making sound decisions that you know will impact the rest of your life. Here’s our guide to help you get your life back on track and head you in the right direction:

Assess the situation:
Firstly you need to take a good hard look at your life and think about the areas you want to improve. This might be improving your job, increasing your income, having more family time or creating more opportunities in your life. The truth is sometimes hard to admit, but this is the hardest step to take. Once you acknowledge there are areas within your life that need work, then you can decide how you’re going to improve them.

Decide what you want:
Next is deciding what you want to achieve. Once you have found the problem areas within your life you need to decide what you would like to replace them with. Keep this positive and only come up with solutions, not more problems. For example if you don’t like your job, then state what kind of job you would like to have and what the benefits of this job would be. Then you can write them on a piece of paper and hang them up in your room, they can then act as a goal sheet for you to aspire towards.

Take action:
Thirdly, is the major step of taking action, this is a hard step to take and can sometimes seem daunting. Once you have your goals you need to come with an action plan of how you are going to achieve these goals, for your job you could make a new CV and apply for jobs in the paper that fit the description of your ideal job. If you don’t have suitable training, then go to a short course that will help you get the job you want.

Follow up:
The last step is to follow up on your goals, they have to be worked on. Changing your life isn’t going to happen over night and will be an ongoing process that you have to work on. If you stay focused and make sure you stay on track then you will achieve your goals in the end.

How to deal with team conflict!!!

We have all experienced working in teams but sometimes it can be a great experience and others terrible. The reason why conflict generates from team work is due to a clash in either: personality and working styles. Dealing with conflict and team issues is a major factor in creating a great team working environment and producing a good end result , here’s our tips on how to deal with those sticky team situations:

Tip 1: Be Direct
When conflict arises be direct about what the problem is and the best solution to deal with it. This can mean holding a team meeting to discuss the problem in an open forum or holding private meetings with the individuals involved. If you create an open door policy as a boss or with your boss then people will feel comfortable talking to you about any issues they do have before they escalate out of control.

Tip 2: Have team rules
Having team rules means that everyone in the team knows where they stand and what they can or can’t do. Lay these out from the start and this will mean that when you do come across conflict there will be a way that the team has decided to deal with it or the rules will eliminate most conflict anyway. Generally conflict can be created by misunderstandings or miscommunications, written rules that are agreed upon by the group can reduce these types of conflict starters.

Tip3: Bargaining
This is similar to a compromise, where each individual has tried to come to an agreement but cannot come to a middle ground decision. Sometimes getting a mediator or a superior worker to act as a decision maker can make this decision for the team. Preferably this person isn’t working with the group so they won’t be biased in their decision.

Tip4: Have a team leader
Conflict management often means that the team leader has to take an active role in making sure the team works well together. Managing peoples personalities and work styles is an important aspect of trying to prevent conflict. This means putting people in groups who have similar working styles and personalities, or within each group having two similar people working together. This means that overall the team will be happier therefore there will be less conflict.

Tip 5: Have a clear conflict resolution process
There are many ways of dealing with conflict including: mediation, collaboration (one on one) and team counselling are the more popular ways. If these processes are clear and fit with the team dynamics, when conflict does arise then you can swiftly and professionally deal with the problem.

Being beautiful is not just about your external appearance, you can be the most beautiful model but not a nice person and vice versa. The main thing is that you recognise that you body does not make you a better or worse person. Typically normal people don’t look like models, we don’t have long legs and we do have curves. This is beautiful in itself, there’s nothing wrong with your body. Your only given one, so you mise well love it. If your unhappy with your image, ask your friends to tell you the things they like about your body and the great aspects of your personality. Then only focus on the positives and not the negatives, we all have things we don’t like about our selves but by focusing on the positives you will project a positive attitude.

2. Value who you are
Focusing on your positive attributes and valuing yourself as a person is the key to making sure you have healthy body image. This includes a healthy diet and regular exercise so you feel good about yourself and your body. If you maintain this type of lifestyle then you will end up having a better body and then mind as well. If you’re feeling emotionally and mentally unhealthy then get some help to get your head back in the game. Feeling confident and being the best person you can be is about having a healthy body and mind. Once you have these aspects sorted then you are well on your way to a healthy body image. Also looking at your body in a positive way and telling your self your beautiful everyday will help to boost your confidence. Even if you don’t believe it at the beginning, try to keep it up and you will be amazed at how much your attitude will change.

3. Openness
Being open and honest is a key factor to a cohesive team and its linked to respect. If you have a problem with the way something is done or the way a person is acting, then tell them. There’s no need to talk behind someone’s back when you can talk to the person face to face and resolve the issue. If someone isn’t pulling their weight, let them know and then they can try to fix the problem.

4. Cooperation
As a team you have to work together – there is no point in one person doing all the work as this doesn’t help anyone. Work together on issues and come with solutions.

5. Compromise
In every team there needs to be a bit of give and take. Each person should respect others ideas and take them on board. Even if you have to change some of your ideas, this is what compromising is all about. We can’t always get what we want as others have valid and interesting ideas as well.

Dealing with employee personality clashes, also known as “peace keeping”, has become a huge part of middle managements job description. It has become a big problem within the workforce, so what is a personality clash and what’s the best way to deal with it in the work force?

A personality clash is something that happens when one person’s values and morals are violated by another person. We don’t clash with everyone, as we can tolerate some differences and can even enjoy those differences. However, the change comes when we are offended and feel violated by another person’s views, attitudes and behaviours as they clash with our own. Managers have doubled the amount of time over the past 10 years that they now spend on peace keeping. This could be due to many factors including: immigration, cultural ideals, a change in values and morals. But the fact is that it’s a big problem and there are some solutions which are outlined below.

Firstly as a manager you need to know the triggers of personality clashes, they can range from cultural values, competiveness, prejudice, misunderstandings, grudges and perceived threats are just a few triggers that can result in personality clashes. The first thing managers need to look at is the working environment for your workers who have these clashes. Are there other factors that need to be taken into consideration? i.e. one worker may be in the middle of a divorce. Is the workload too heavy or not heavy enough? Is there too much competition? If any of these sound like your work place then it’s time to change your workers environment.

The environment of the workplace will impact the number of clashes and so will your conflict management process. If you think that your workers environment is creating problems, then try to introduce a lower work load, fun social work parties and generally lower the tension within the organisation. Next you can look into the actual problem behind the clash, try to indentify why these two people don’t get along by holding individual one on one interviews with them. Once you have done this, there are some steps you can take to resolve the problem: try to let them deal with the issue on their own first, separate them when you can, reduce work load if needed and if its severe enough then you can take disciplinary action if needed .

Think about how you would like to be treated if the shoe were on the other foot.

Hint 2 Be respectful
Be respectful of what you say to them and how you say it. Choose an appropriate time and place to break up. Then make sure you tell the truth about why you don’t want to be with them anymore. Don’t try to humiliate, hurt or make them angry. Treat them the way you would want to be treated and expect that they will get emotional about the issue as well.

Hint 3 Tell them the truth

2. Be understanding
When he is communicating his jealousy, be understanding. Reports of a ban on the popular bingo call, “two fat ladies,” the traditional bingo call for the number 88, had bingo players from all over the UK voicing out in protest at bingo becoming politically correct.

The issue of bingo calls being politically incorrect was first raised when the Sudbury Council at Suffolk banned John Sayers, the town’s former mayor and current manager of a bingo parlor at the town hall, from using “two fat ladies” and “legs eleven” as bingo calls. The council issued the ban only after receiving legal advice and counsel on the subject that the calls could offend overweight players who could then have grounds for a lawsuit.

“Two fat ladies” is one of the most popular bingo calls in the history of the game and the term was coined because the numbers resemble a pair of overweight women. The council’s ban on “Two fat ladies” has caused a bingo call that has been used for decades to be portrayed as an insult to overweight women in the audience. “Legs eleven” has also come into the range of fire and is being construed as a possible sexist comment. Although bingo players have spoken out in favour of the traditional bingo calls, the ban has placed these much loved bingo calls under a sort of politically correct magnifying glass, garnering global attention.

In a day when a doctor from North Carolina is in danger of losing his license for calling a female patient “fat,” the reasoning behind the decision made by the Sudbury council can be understood. However, the question of supporting the council’s decision is a different matter altogether, as the ban is seen as an imposition on the history and tradition of bingo as a game.

Bingo players have become so incensed at this interference into traditional bingo that they have launched a campaign to protect the traditional bingo calls and have managed to secure over 3000 signatures so far. Bingo hall managers and bingo players have also been very vocal with their disapproval at the ban, stating that the ban was impinging on the traditions of bingo and taking the fun out of the game.

Since this is an issue that deals with the political correctness of the bingo slang, it does not give bingo hall owners and managers much say in the matter and we can only wait to see whether the ban will be revoked much to the relief of thousands of bingo players all over the world or end up being replicated in other bingo halls, bringing yet another ban to bingo.

First it was the smoking ban, then it was the 22% bingo tax and now it is “Two fat ladies.”
